You Check Your Phone 96 Times a Day: How Social Media Steals Your Self-Love

Why I Deleted Social Media Apps: A Lesson in Self-Love
Why I Deleted Social Media Apps: A Lesson in Self-Love

Let me admit something: Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn are all deleted from my phone right now. My team manages my professional accounts.

Why? Because I developed a habit of checking. How many likes? How many comments? How many views? You know the feeling.

Slowly, you start tying your sense of validation to that little screen. And one day, I asked myself a simple question: Why should my sense of validation come from someone else at all?

The Number That Should Scare You

On average, we check our phones 96 times a day. Let that sink in. This technology was built for us, but somewhere, we started living for the technology. Those impulsive scrolls through reels and threads are dangerous, because they stand directly between you and self-love.

You’re Watching a Fake World

Here’s the trap. When you go through your feed, you are looking at a fake world. You do not realise how many attempts precede the one reel; how many filters are behind that face. You only witness the finished product. And what do we do? We try to become like that. You compare your real, messy life with someone else’s highlight-reel, and that comparison starts to eat away at you like pus in a sore.

The One Thing that Successful People have in Common

Via my podcasting experience, I have shared a story with over 90 achievers. This fell in every single one: They all love themselves. And those are the factors which boost your confidence level. You can’t let your self-esteem go down when you completely embrace yourself as you are in any body shape. You love yourself as much as you are. Bring up one year old video recording of me,I weighed 15 kg more, looked ten years older. After self-love arrived, I changed my health, fitness and food. Even my dressing sense and grooming changed everything. We are only conditioned to think that girls have to be/be made ready. Not true.

Say No to Content

Let me leave you with the most important thing. There’s no shortage of knowledge about YouTube, seminars, or even this. Your job is to find the right knowledge and say no to the rest. That content you’re getting for free? It’s taking your biggest asset in exchange: your time. So, delete the apps you don’t need. Quiet the noise. Protect your inner voice. Because the moment social media stops standing between you and yourself, self-love walks right in.
